Newfoundland

Newfoundland is the Eastern-most province in Canada and with its capital in St. John’s. Real Estate licences here are regulated by Service Newfoundland. Education and examinations are provided by Newfoundland and Labrador Association of REALTORS® Inc (NLAR).

 

How to get a Real Estate Licence in Newfoundland

Licencing Prerequisites

The candidate must:

  • be at least 19 years of age;
  • successfully complete the necessary course;
  • complete the required licensing application;
  • satisfy the bonding requirement;
  • submit the appropriate licensing fee; and
  • be employed by a licensed broker.

Getting the Licence

A candidate applying for a realtor’s licence in Newfoundland must successfully complete the Real Estate Salesperson’s examination. The examination is held at the conclusion of a self-study period where the candidate takes the pre-licencing course.

Part 1 – Pre-licencing and examination

To receive a Basic Licence, you are required to complete the pre-licencing course and examination within 12 months of beginning the following pre-licencing course:

Part 2 – Receiving the Licence

Within two years after completing the pre-licencing course, the prospective realtor must have completed the remaining licence requirements. This includes completing the licence application with Service NL, satisfy the bonding requirements, submit the appropriate licencing fee and be employed by a licensed broker. •        NLAR is working toward implementing a mandatory continuing education program to maintain a realtor’s licence.
